Wolverhampton suffered a defeat through Newcastle United. Still no win after opening.

Wolverhampton lost 1-2 at home to Newcastle in the fourth round of the 2024-25 Premier League at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, England, on the 16th.

Wolverhampton finished 18th with one draw and three losses. Excluding the schedule of the League Cup, the team still has no win in the league. On the other hand, Newcastle ranked third with three wins and one draw, following Manchester City with 12 points and Arsenal with 10 points. Since the season's opening, the team has continued its winning streak.

Hwang Hee-chan started from the bench on the day. He was substituted in the middle of the second half and played as a left winger, but his team lost by allowing an equalizer and a come-from-behind goal. Hwang Hee-chan also finished the game without showing any performance. With no offensive points in the fifth game since the opening, the team has postponed the opportunity again.

Wolverhampton played in a 4-4-2 formation. Matheus Cunha - Jorgen Stran Larsen, Jean-Lichner Belgard - João Gomes - Andre - Mario Lemina, Ryan Ait Nouri - Craig Dawson - Yershon Mosquera - Nelson Semedu and Sam Johnstone competed.

Newcastle faced off in a 4-3-3 formation. Anthony Gordon-Alexander Isaac-Jacob Murphy, Joelington-Bruno Guimarães-Sean Longstaff, Lewis Hall-Dan Byrne-Fabian Cher-Valentino Livramento and Nick Pope stepped up.

Newcastle got the chance first. Murphy, who penetrated the defense quickly in the seventh minute of the first half, received Isaac's pass and connected with a shot, but was blocked by Johnstone's goalkeeper.

Newcastle clearly took the mood even though it was an away game. They put strong pressure on the front and cut off Wolverhampton's development. In the 22nd minute of the first half, Gordon on the left side created a chance with a solo play. Gordon caught the ball and quickly penetrated into the box past Mosquera and attempted a shot that was wrapped around the far post, but hit the top of the net.

Midway through the first half, Wolverhampton began to fight back through Newcastle's pressure. Andre, who ran around the right side in the 28th minute, put a pass into the box, and Belgard, who was rushing, connected with a shot, but missed the goal.

Wolverhampton, who continued to keep the flow, smiled first. Larsen, who played on the right side in the 36th minute of the first half, sent a low cross through the defense, and Gomes, who was rushing, spilled it. The ball went to Lemina in the back, who calmly pushed it in and scored the first goal.

Newcastle, which were taken away in the second half, made a difference. Just before the end of the first half, the team put in Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock to sharpen its capabilities. Gordon played the role of fake No. 9, while Barnes played on the left side and Tonali, Guimarães and Willock played in the midfield.

Newcastle appeared to tie Wolverhampton's feet by trying to press hard just like they did in the first half, but Wolverhampton quickly settled down. They formed a tight defense and cut off a cross from the side.

Wolverhampton threatened Newcastle with an attack targeting tall striker Larsen. In the eighth minute of the second half, Larsen connected a ground ball cross from Lemina on the right side with a right footed shot, but hit the right post. In the 15th minute of the second half, Lemina on the right side again crossed for Larsen and returned it with a header, but was blocked by goalkeeper Pope.

Newcastle chose to change again. In the 18th minute of the second half, he excluded Livramento and put in Kieran Trippier.

Wolverhampton also pulled out a replacement card. He added Hwang Hee-chan to the left side to strengthen his offense in the 25th minute of the second half.

However, Wolverhampton lost a point without seeing any substitution effect. In the 30th minute of the second half, Newcastle pushed their attack to the front of Wolverhampton's box, and the central defender Cher, who received Willock's pass, suddenly hit Dawson's head and was sucked into the goal, tying the score 1-1.

Wolverhampton started efforts to adjust the mood. At the 31st minute of the second half, Tommy Doyle and Matt Doherty were deployed to bring about changes.

However, Newcastle turned the tables. In the 35th minute of the second half, Barnes from the left side penetrated into the center, beating the defense, and successfully came from behind 2-1 with a sharp winding shot from the front of the box.

Wolverhampton struggled until the end. At the 41st minute of the second half, Ait Nouri and Larsen were excluded, and Carlos Borges and Gonzalo Guedes were deployed to attack.

In the 1st minute of extra time in the second half, the ball cleared by the opponent came up high, and Cunha in the box turned one-touch and aimed for the goal himself, but was blocked by goalkeeper Pope.

Until the end, Wolverhampton went on an all-out offensive. Daedas' players tried to see the opportunity by putting them inside the box, but it did not come to fruition.

In the end, the game ended as it was and Newcastle, who were on the road, won a thrilling come-from-behind victory.
